I stayed at the Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, a luxury mountain resort with the prettiest of views! The spa on the property is also definitely worth checking out – so peaceful and serene, you can’t help but feel totally relaxed. The meditation room has huge windows that look out to the mountains ahead.
THINGS TO DO
If you are a nature addict, this is the place for you! The amazing sights and plenty of fresh air is definitely refreshing and reviving. There are a number of hiking trails to explore and see – cutting past waterfalls, rocky cliffs and colorful Fall foliage, these trails do not disappoint. Bring your camera! Each waterfall was prettier than the next.
My favorite trail was Dry Falls, alongside the Cullasaja River. The waterfall is easily accessible and kid-friendly.
If you love shopping, spend the day strolling on Main Street and checking out all the unique boutiques – each is different in its own way, so there is something for everyone. From fashion boutiques and homemade fudge and yummy sweet shoppes, to specialty home decor stores (with some of the prettiest dishes and entertaining pieces), antique stores and more, you definitely will shop till you drop!
In such a small town, the restaurant options are a bit limited, but the food is always amazing. It’s gourmet Southern comfort -style meals no matter where you go! The local popular spot is Mountain Fresh Grocery, which has everything from a large wine selection (yay!) to homemade baked goods. Try the made-to-order pizzas – delish! I’d also recommend the pimento cheese dip or the cheddar grits and biscuits – creamy and dreamy!
The Old Edwards Inn also has a great restaurant, Madison’s, with cozy decor and even better eats.
Until next time!
